In 2006, I fell in love with my girlfriend, Kristy Arnett, and at 23, we moved to Las Vegas to chase our poker dreams. I was stuck at $1-$2 NL until 2009 when I met my first poker mentor—an online poker crusher from Sweden. He was an incredible poker mind, and I would not be where I am today without his guidance. From 2009 to 2019 I was one of the biggest winners in the cash games at stakes as high as $25-$50 NL (most volume around $5-$10 NL & $10-$20 NL).
When COVID hit in 2020, live poker shut down, and my only option was to play online. However, I lacked technical skills, and my knowledge of game theory was weak. I knew I had to work hard on my game if I wanted to succeed. I joined a study group led by a bright young guy from the UK who was great with solvers and had a deep understanding of theory. This experience allowed me to become very profitable online during the COVID shutdown (plus, the games were incredible).
COVID restrictions started easing up in early 2021, a friend convinced me to fly to Florida for a tournament. I cashed, but more importantly, I realized how much I loved tournaments.
In April 2021, I decided to fully transition to tournament poker and set two goals: to surpass $1 million in lifetime winnings (I was about $100,000 short) and to secure my first seven-figure score. I hired a coach and worked tirelessly on mastering tournament strategy. Just a few months later, I won a tournament at the Venetian to achieve my first goal, and a few weeks later, won the inaugural Wynn Millions for $1.3 million.
My now wife, Kristy, and I have two children, Miles and Maya. I've become extremely selective with my poker travel, so I decided to expand my coaching practice. Not only will it allow me to stay home more, but I also deeply enjoy mentoring hungry players.
In poker, you get to decide how good you will become. Long ago, I decided I would never look back on my life and wonder, 'How good could I have been if I had really gone for it in poker?' I’ve dedicated my life to reaching my full potential, and this pursuit has taught me as much off the table as it has on it.
